Keep your body moving and your mind focused with these songs playing in the background. From OPM to rock, classic to modern, there’s something for everyone here
Sometimes, the best motivator is a good song to keep you focused on your goal. For many of us, we already have a designated workout playlist to turn to whenever we go out for our jogs or when we lay on our mats for at-home pilates. However, even great songs can feel demotivating after thousands of plays.
With that in mind, here’s a list of underrated songs and old hits that will fit right into your playlist. The songs are also divided by genre so that you can go straight to what fits your mood.
OPM
First, let’s shine a spotlight on our local artists. The five songs we recommend you add to your workout playlist are “Sisikat Ka Iha” by Bita and the Botflies, “ANINO SA BABA (Mayro’n Akong Nakita)” performed by Mei Teves, “Martyr Nyebera” by Kamikazee, “Magasin” by Eraserheads, and “WLKN” by Bullet Dumas. Some songs are more upbeat than others, but they each hold merit in their own ways.
Pop
The next songs we recommend include some old pop hits from the 1980s and late 2010s. These five songs are “Lobby” by Anitta and Missy Elliott, “Hungry Like the Wolf” by Duran Duran, “Physical” by Dua Lipa, “Exactly How I Feel (feat. Gucci Mane)” by Lizzo, and “Woman (feat. The Dap-Kings Horns)” by Kesha.
R&B and rap
Some more underrated gems we recommend are “Why iii Love The Moon” by Phony Ppl, “Hit ‘Em Up Style (Oops!)” by Blu Cantrell, “Spit for Me” by Shay D, “Shadow Man (feat. Phoelix, Smino, and Saba)” by Noname, and “Conceited” by SZA. Some of these songs lean more soulful than others, while there are also those that lean more toward rap and hip-hop.
Rock
The last genre we recommend adding to your workout playlist is rock. Under this parent genre are songs that are subcategorized as glam rock, pop rock, classic rock, and alternative rock. In this list, we have “The Cult of Dionysus” by The Orion Experience, “Could Have Been Me” by The Struts, “Live Wire” by AC/DC, “Hit the Wave” by Marmozets, and “Re-Wired” by Kasabian.
