With the unpredictable weather, it can be difficult to get your daily dose of sunshine. This is where the magic of makeup comes in—thank god for that. We got in touch with Cats Del Rosario of Artists and Company Manila (Hair & Makeup) on ways one can fake that enviable sun-kissed glow all year round.
Bronzed Beauty
First and foremost, one shouldn’t forget to prep the skin, staying away from powdered products to achieve a look that seems more natural. “You should always put sunblock first, and then moisturize. Afterwards, add liquid or cream highlighter on the key points where the light would hit your face, such as the brow bone, above the cheekbones, cupid’s bone, etc.,” Del Rosario shares.
Afterwards comes the fun part—bronzing. Rather than going for the natural contour points we’re used to, think about where the sun hits you: on your forehead, on the top of your cheeks and across the bridge of your nose and on the chin. “Make sure you use only two shades darker than your normal skin tone, considering the rest of your body’s skin color to make your ‘tan’ seem more natural. Also, always blend to make the finish seamless,” Del Rosario shares.
That Sunburnt Effect
Many of us already know that if you want to exaggerate that sunburnt effect, add blush on the nose and across the cheeks rather than normally applying it on the apples of your cheeks.
Del Rosario shares an extra tip: “Use cream or liquid products, such as a lip and cheek stain for a more natural result. Blend on the apples of the cheeks, then slightly extend to the nose and chin.” The result? A face that looks naturally flushed, as if you had just come home from a beach trip.

Faux Freckles
“We have a tendency to just start drawing dots on the face to achieve freckles, but it is essential what products and tools you use to make it appear more natural,” Del Rosario starts, “You can use a toothbrush with a slightly darker of liquid foundation and sporadically flip the bristles to spray it all over the face. After this, you may switch to a darker shade and follow the same steps. You can manually add the freckles using a really thin eyeliner brush and waterproof gel eye liner.”
Del Rosario adds that it all boils down to using different techniques, products and tools to give your freckles the right variation of color, size and dimension. “Natural looking freckles usually aren’t spread out evenly, choose some areas where it visibly has more freckles to give it more character,” she shares.
