Filipino cinematic talent reaches Nagoya, Japan for the Jinseo Arigato Film Festival, and here are four must-see films from the festival happening on May 25-26, 2024
The craftsmanship of Filipinos when it comes to filmmaking has brought our very own motion pictures to different parts of the world. From special screenings and festival premieres to even honoring nominations and accepting awards, Filipino films have reached different parts of Asia, the United States, and Europe to showcase our eye for cinematography, directing, and acting.
At the upcoming Jinseo Arigato Film Festival in Nagoya, Japan on May 25 to 26, be on the lookout for these films that are proudly Filipino made.

Manipula
Wilfully committing revenge for her father, Actress and producer Ana Jalandoni plays six characters to successfully carry out her plan in the Neil Tan directed film, Manipula. The erotica drama thriller also stars Aljur Abrenica, Christian Vasquez, Rosanna Roces, and more. In an exclusive interview with MEGA Entertainment, the actress talks about her pride of showcasing the film in an international film festival. “I am very excited since this is the first movie that I have produced. Naniniwala ako na the Filipinos have so much talent and creativity in producing films, and it is our time to be recognized overseas. Salamat sa lahat ng sumusuporta sa amin to make this possible.”
Mananambal
Filipinos have always been well-versed in the making of horror films. When one brings this genre with the talents of the past and the present, it is the basic equation of a must-watch. National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts Nora Aunor and Kapuso actress Bianca Umali star in Mananambal, a story of a traditional healer who also has her hand in sorcery. Along with the two actresses, the Adolfo Alix Jr. film also stars EA Guzman and Kelvin Miranda.
Chances Are, You and I
This time, Kelvin Miranda stars in the film Chances Are, You and I alongside Kira Balinger. Directed by Catherine Camarillo, the narrative sheds light on the concepts of people with brain tumors and those who are understanding their mental illnesses. After premiering in the Jinseo Arigato Film Festival, the movie will make its Philippine premiere on May 29. The movie also stars Al Tantay, Anne Feo, Tart Carlos, Gian Magdangal, and Jin Ho Bae.
That Kind of Love
BarDa fans, you are in for a treat. After their modern adaptation of Maging Sino Ka Man, Barbie Forteza and David Licauco’s first film as a pairing will finally premiere at the said festival. That Kind of Love, another Catherine Camarillo motion picture, earned the Spotlight Entry at the film fest. Last year, the cast and the crew flew to South Korea to shoot their movie. According to a GMA news report, the film will also have a Philippine premiere after its showing in the festival, but the date has yet to be announced.
