5 Evening Gown Trends We’re Expecting in Miss Universe Philippines

By

Now that the preliminaries are done, the Miss Universe Philippines coronation night is coming up, and here are the five evening gown trends that we’re expecting to see this Saturday

It’s no secret that Filipinos are huge fanatics of different pageants, and for good reason. It’s the grand pageantry that showcases the strength of a woman through her beauty, intelligence, and perseverance. It has also become a beacon of light to many women as they see it as a platform to fight for their advocacies in their own way.

The Miss Universe Philippines is about to commence on May 13 and we’re already waiting to see who the next queen will be. But as we excitedly hope for our bets to win, it’s only fitting to do some forecasting, especially the type of fashion we’ll be seeing during the evening gown segment.

Cutouts

We’ve seen this detailing all over the world. From the red carpet to the runway, cutouts have been one of the reigning trends for anything extravagant so we expect to see them in various finishes on some of this year’s candidates.

Corsets

This was definitely a hit during the pandemic because of the curiosity towards royal and Y2K fashion thanks to series like Bridgerton and The Great, and it’s still making waves to this day. Whether it’s a full corset or the boning on the bodice, both international and local designers have made their own iterations of the corset, so we’re definitely keeping an eye out for this during the big night.

Subtle slinky finish

When we say subtly slinky, we’re expecting lightweight fabrics falling delicately on the body with less tension. Not too form-fitting or too billowy, this type of silhouette creates a soft aesthetic and leaves an airy finish to the overall look—making the wearer look effortlessly graceful on stage.

Bold hues

We won’t be surprised if we see the usual tones of silver, gold, and brass in this year’s Miss Universe Philippines pageant. However, we have seen the slow rise of bolder hues in the past few years and how candidates capitalize on such colors with such elegance, which is why we’re expecting to see a wider roster of daring shades this year.

Unexpected edge

While some opt to go for gowns with a classic silhouette, there are others who have gone the unexpected edgy route. This can be done with a darker palette or with unusual fabrics such as metallic or chain-links. Should some of the candidates tease us to expect the unexpected, we’re excited to see an elegant yet edgier twist to what we’ve gotten used to all these years.
