Sometimes, the scariest thing about Halloween is figuring out what to wear—most especially when you’re doing it the day before
Halloween may be tomorrow, but a last-minute party invitation (or the result of poor planning) may call for a costume to be conjured with scary speed. And because this holiday is all about getting creative, strike the right balance between clever and culturally relevant. Here are five easy costume ideas to throw on together for the pop culture literate, and will (hopefully) require minimal explanation.

Mia from the Princess Diaries
There’s no better time to tease the third addition of the Princess Diaries series with your Halloween costume. Take notes from Camila Cabello last year at Heidi Klum’s annual Halloween party last year—all you need is a little white dress, headphones, and oval shades. The only thing you might need to find is a tiara, which is not the worst thing to have in your closet.
Tashi from Challengers
Do a white tennis dress and a braided ponytail and you’re instantly recognizable as tennis prodigy Tashi Duncan. Bonus points if you are accompanied by two friends playing Art and Patrick.
Olivia Rodrigo
“Miss So Filipina” made her homecoming just this month with a fundraiser concert; as she performed for a packed house at the Philippine Arena, Olivia Rodrigo expressed pride in her Filipino roots. You can pull off any of her iconic tour looks with just a few key pieces (think glitter, tights, boots, chains)—but you can simply go with a sparkly black outfit paired with a white sash.
Elisabeth Sparkle from The Substance
There’s a lot to discuss in Coralie Fargeat’s body horror flick, yet all anyone talks about is the coat. Even if the people you’re partying with have yet to see the movie, Demi Moore’s character Elisabeth Sparkle wears an outfit so identifiable it requires no context—throw on a yellow coat and don’t forget the cardboard box and oversized sunglasses and you’re done. Similarly, experiment with the versatility of the yellow coat and perhaps turn into Coraline?
Raygun
The Paris Olympics was probably one of the most-talked-about events this 2024, so a Raygun-inspired costume will result in a conversation-starting ensemble. A green sweatsuit and perhaps some yellow tape to adorn it in Raygun’s distinctive style are all you need. Bonus points if you can show off her dance moves.
