Five Things We Can Expect from ‘The Idol,’ Sam Levinson’s New Series

Is The Idol the new Euphoria? Here are five things you need to know about the series created by The Weeknd and Sam Levinson

It’s no secret that Hollywood has a sleazy side—you’ve got many documentaries and major motion pictures touching on the topic. Just earlier this year, Marilyn Monroe’s career was blown up in an explicit biopic starring Ana De Armas. Now, we’re faced with an exploitive new series created by the director of Euphoria, Sam Levinson, Abel Tesfaye a.k.a. The Weeknd, and nightlife entrepreneur, Reza Fahim. The show focuses on Lily-Rose Depp’s character Jocelyn, who is the love interest of a new age cult leader played by The Weeknd.

On top of all these entertaining thrills, we’ll also be seeing some of our favorite artists on the show as Jennie Kim of BLACKPINK, Troye Sivan, Suzanne Son, and more have all signed on and have finished taping in the past few months. The Idol is set to be released sometime in 2023 and will be available for all to watch on HBO Go.

If you’re interested to know more about The Idol, here are five things you can expect from the series.

Jennie Kim is Lily-Rose Depp’s rival in the show

It’s confirmed that Jennie Kim is playing Anys, a mean girl in the music industry who competes against Jocelyn, Lily-Rose Depp’s character.

Lily-Rose Depp will be pushing for a more mature role

Based on the trailer, Lily-Rose Depp will be baring all in the upcoming series. She’ll be dancing in the tiniest of outfits for her performances as a pop princess.

The series is The Weeknd’s first starring role

The Weeknd made his first appearance in a major motion picture during his brief cameo in Uncut Gems. Apart from that, he has only acted in music videos, making The Idol his first real acting debut.

Sam Levinson, Reza Fahim, and The Weeknd created the series

The “Call Out My Name” singer is not only a lyrical genius, but he’s also a script writer, producer, and director. He, along with Sam Levinson and Reza Fahim, created The Idol from scratch, basing it off of personal experiences.

The series will have a stellar soundtrack

How can The Idol not have a great soundtrack? Jennie Kim, The Weeknd, Troye Sivan, and Lily-Rose Depp are all artists in the music industry so there will definitely be killer tracks specifically made for the series.
