Who could forget Lily Collins’ gothic MET Gala look? The actress has proven she’s got more style than her character in Netflix’s Emily in Paris.

This is a reminder that Lily Collins has been in 22 films before she did Emily in Paris. The young actress has been around Hollywood since 1999. She has attended countless red carpet events and has been on the cover of several reputable fashion magazines. During all that time, it would be impossible for Collins not to pick up a thing or two about fashion. Besides, the actress has attended the MET Gala seven times.

With that being said, we’re surprised to see some of the viewers pin her costume to be personal style choices. When in fact, Collins’ style has a more laid back approach to it. It’s the perfect juxtaposition to Emily’s colorful prep style. This is all done smartly by the show’s costume team, Patricia Field and Marylin Fitoussi. They make sure that the outfits reflect their characters and the stories they lead. Maybe that’s why Emily’s outfits take on a non-conformist approach to Parisienne fashion.

To show the contrast of her looks from Emily in Paris and her personal style, we’ve listed down five looks from Lily Collins. These looks were either personal choices of the actress or a collaborative effort with her go-to stylists, Mariel Haenn and Rob Zangardi.

Light Academia on the beach
Collins’ most recent Instagram post is of her on the beach wearing her “green tea outfit”. You can really see the range of styles she can pull off through her many androgynous looks.

The Parisienne outfit we were looking for
Collins wore this outfit on the set of Emily in Paris season 2. If we let Lily Collins dress Emily Cooper, then this would be the Parisienne look she would opt for.

Her wedding gown
A woman’s wedding gown speaks volumes of her personal style. She opted for a classic full lace gown with a heavy train.

Audrey Hepburn is that you?
This was back when Collins was sporting a pixie cut. The actress was at Coco Chanel’s apartment in Paris for a bit of sight seeing.

This Gothic MET Gala look
Collins was praised for this MET Gala look in 2018. She wore an off shoulder Givenchy gown paired with Cartier jewelry.
