This year’s Tokyo Olympics is historic and iconic in every way. After 29 years, its men’s volleyball had its first victory at the Olympics against their match with Iran last August 1st. However, Japan was bested by the world’s best, Brazil, last Tuesday, suffering a 3-0 in the men’s volleyball quarterfinals.
Team Japan’s volleyball team may not have won a gold medal, but they surely won the hearts of the world wide web with their veteran captain Yuki Ishikawa and young star player Ran Takahashi, aka, the internet’s newest crush. You might have seen his name trending all over Twitter the past few days, and well, it’s because of his good game and good looks. Here’s the Twitterverse has to say:

Proud to represent Japan
Takahashi was born in September 2, 2001 and has some American ancestry through his grandfather, while his mother is half Japanese and half German. Even so, he don’t talk much about his ethnicity; for him, he’s a proud Japanese.
He has an older brother, Rui, and a younger sister, Riri. Both of his siblings are volleyball players as well.
MVP in wherever he goes
Takahashi started playing volleyball during second grade for his school team. At the first grade, he was small so he played mainly as a libero.
Following that, he continued to delve deeper into his chosen sport. In his third year at Higashiyama High School, he served as the captain and ace of the team, and won the Winter 2020 All Japan High School Volleyball Championships, also known as “Haruko.” He was awarded as the “MVP” by the end of the competition, and was selected for Japan men’s national volleyball team for the first time in February.
Takahashi entered Nippon Sport Science University after graduating from high school. He led the volleyball team there as well, and was a runner-up in the 2020 All Japan Intercollegiate Volleyball Championship. He also got the “Best Scorer” award from the competition. Because of all these achievements, he’s dubbed as the next Yuki Ishikawa, the captain of Men’s Volleyball team of Japan.
