It’s been a busy quarter as we end the year, but it’s definitely an exciting period as fashion enthusiasts wait for the latest news—and the current talk of the town is the upcoming theme for next year’s Met Gala.
The news was released on the 30th of September as Pharrell Williams, one of the ambassadors of Chanel, made the announcement. A theme that honored one of the most influential and prolific designers, the Met Gala presents Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty. And to commemorate the late designer, we look back at Chanel’s most memorable runway shows that put fashion production to new heights.
Couture A/W 2013
A rather darker take on Chanel’s collection, yet it was executed with such luxury. In a post-apocalyptic setting, a run-down theater was arranged as a variety of dramatized casual pieces walked down the runway.
Ready-to-Wear A/W 2014
It was one of the most immersive and playful set designs Chanel has done, and it made quite the noise during fashion week. Grand Palais was transformed into a supermarket that came in with fresh produce. Models entered the set with the sole intention of completing their grocery run for the day.
Ready-to-Wear A/W 2017
Futuristic and grand—the iconic opening of Chanel’s A/W 2017 show is still making an impact in today’s fashion industry. A large-scale rocket ship took its flight as smoke scattered across the room, and the models then made their entrance clad in metallic pieces.
Ready-to-Wear A/W 2019
A rather emotional show was put into the runway as Chanel presented the last collection of Karl Lagerfeld. High up in the alpines at the Grand Palais, a blanket of thick snow covered the runway, and trees were dusted with snowflakes. Dressed in different plaids and tweeds, Cara Delevigne led the final walk with her fellow models.
Ready-to-Wear S/S 2020
On a lighter note, Paris was brought inside the Grand Palais for Chanel’s S/S 2020 collection. With the venue recreating a Parisian rooftop, Gigi Hadid took her spot on the set as models walked out in their chic ensembles.
