This Is Aries Night, The Scream Chic of Drag Den

What’s behind the compelling artistry of Aries Night? We find out in Drag Den.

It could be wildly baffling to think that a drag queen is an introvert. Like many stories we’ve already heard about the magic of drag and how it reveals characteristics we never knew we had, it is the same with Aries Night. “It gives me this confidence to be whoever I want to be,” she says. Like armor that could be put to battle against any challenger, herself included. “I have slowly married both personas. Aries Night started as this supplement to what Thomas is lacking. The fact that Aries and Thomas exist in one body, mind, and soul made me realize that there’s no need to hide behind another persona.” Drag has blended all the good parts and created a better version of herself. “It made me love myself even more,” she adds.

While her craft is heavily inspired by Lady Gaga, she loves bending the usual, flipping it, and reversing it. When she’s in her element, she could be a supermodel, a demon, a rat, an alien, and all those things combined. A balance of both hyper-femme and alternative, her outrageous looks and unexpected tricks are a reflection of no one but herself. “Aries Night is a product of all the failures and hardships that Thomas has gone through all his life,” she says. “My drag is heavily trauma-induced, and my creativity is fueled by it. Coping with trauma through fantasizing about myself in different scenarios to escape reality made me think more outside the box.”

“My drag is a love letter to my late mother and two younger sisters. Since the start, I have intended not to make it about me. I want my drag to be this influential and provocative entity.”

Her birth sign, for obvious reasons, is Aries. The second half of her drag name came from Manila Luzon. “I was introduced to Manila way back in 2017. She made me explain my drag persona and, from there, gave me the name ‘Night.’ So, this Drag Den experience is a full circle moment for me having her now as my Mothah,” she narrates.

Drag Den premieres on December 8, 2022 via Prime Video.
