The planning
John said that they had very little time to plan and perfect Donny’s outfit, but fortunately, they are used to working under pressure. Despite having such little time, he said they were glad for the few weeks they had to conceptualize and create an outfit that suited the theme. As far as designers go, John felt certain that the finest choice would be renowned fashion designer Rajo Laurel. He said that the prom was the best opportunity to collaborate with the designer since it was something they had always wanted to do. “Rajo is a dear friend of Donny’s family and mine, too, so we knew we were gonna be in good hands. Plus, it’s Rajo Laurel—the look will surely be amazing,” John shared.
The inspiration
Since black is Donny’s favorite color, his team understood from the get-go that that’s what they’d be going with. However, John made sure that the final look would not seem simplistic. He realized that by going for a looser and baggier cut, he could give the outfit an edgier vibe. In addition to that, he gave a tremendous shout-out to the designer for bringing their ideas to reality and for adding a touch of flair to the overall style by using a black lace underneath the suit. John added that he and Rajo had conceptualized a look that was influenced by the 1980s and was evocative of the New Romantics, The Cure, and Johnny Depp.
The fashion advice
“Keep it clean and classy, but don’t be afraid to experiment a little bit.” John says that working with Donny for so long has given him insight into his personal style, and that despite Donny’s easy-going demeanor, he consciously exerts an effort to shake things up. The fact that Donny has been letting him take care of his style and listening to his suggestions has helped the two of them get along, he mentioned. “Just keep in mind comfort is always key to having confidence, and with just these two things, any guy can rock any look.”
