Here’s a review of Olay’s retinol night moisturizer and how it has improved my skin’s texture
Growing up, people always tell me that I look young. I don’t seem to age, but lately I haven’t been hearing this compliment. While I am still young, my face has felt the effects of my changing environment. From being sheltered at home for so long due to the pandemic to now being more outside, I couldn’t keep my skin’s smoothness and glow the same every day.
Changes are always welcome, and it’s a constant thing in the world that pushes us to be ready for whatever may come our way. As I celebrate my birth years time and time again, I know for a fact that my body and face also age. So I do my best to live healthily and confidently, including equipping an excellent skin care treatment for my fine lines, pores, and uneven skin tone with moisturizers.
Moisturizer is an essential product to any skincare regime, but when I see the word “retinol” as a beauty ingredient, there’s this urge to just pick something else. I’ve heard that retinol causes skin irritation, redness, and flaking. As someone with combination and sensitive skin, it’s the one thing I avoid the most, at least until I found Olay Regenerist Retinol 24 Night Moisturizer.
Formulated with do-skin-good ingredients
Having heard many stories about the side effects of retinol from friends, I was afraid to make a leap. But after doing some research, I discovered that retinol is a vitamin A derivative known for tackling fine lines, wrinkles, acne, dark spots, and dullness.
Retinol is so essential because it can effectively improve the skin’s texture and pigmentation while also having incredible anti-aging effects. Plunging deep into the world of retinol, I knew Olay Regenerist Retinol 24 Night Moisturizer would be a part of my skin care routine.
The purple pot packaging of Olay’s retinol moisturizer was simple, sleek, and classy. It had a mild fragrance, and the texture was smooth and silky. Lightweight, the gel-like cream was easy to apply and did not feel heavy at all. Since retinol can be a potent ingredient, the trial instruction for this is to start slowly.
In my case, I use it every other night in consideration of my skin’s sensitivity. In the evening, I slather a tiny amount of this rich, decadent cream all over my face, leaving my skin feeling hydrated. However, it did give me skin flakes, which was part of the retinol introduction process I had seen from others. My skin was not used to the ingredients, so it was a matter of finding balance and sticking to the routine during this adjustment period.
A refreshing morning
The following day, my face felt so refreshed, especially after a good night’s sleep. There was no redness or tingling sensation either, and on the next few nights, the flakes disappeared, so I continued using the product. Fortunately, my skin adjusted well with retinol.
My skin felt smoother, almost baby soft, when I touched it. My under eyes also looked a bit brighter than before, and my face just looked better and healthier after a week of using it. The creamer also moisturized my face without being greasy and it did not stick to my pillows when I was asleep. It was really refreshing to use and not at all what I expected from a retinol moisturizer that had a reputation of being terrifying.
As for the moisturizer’s effects on fine lines, pores, and wrinkles, I have yet to see significant changes. It could take some time for Olay’s retinol moisturizer to work deep into my skin fully, but the good thing about it was the beginning of an improvement in my face’s texture.
Beauty regimes take time, and most deliver results after consistent applications. Caring for myself is a commitment and a responsibility towards a healthier lifestyle. Since I want to look and feel my best, I make sure I’m on track with my personalized skin care routine.
