Glitters and chromes don’t have to be intimidating. Here’s makeup artist Janica Cleto’s guide to a colorful and dazzling eye look

Applying eye makeup is something a lot of people struggle with, especially if you’re a beginner. One mistake could ruin the whole look and make you start over, but makeup artist Janica Cleto demonstrated how using bright colors and glitter can be easy. As demonstrated during her Chrome and Glitter Masterclass last MEGA BeautyCon with her muse Raejell Roxas, Cleto proved that using colors shouldn’t be so intimidating or scary, and you can definitely use glitter without making a mess.

Start With the Base

Don’t skip eye primer. Whatever you do, no matter how late you are to the party, don’t ever skip the eye primer. Not only does primer cover the veins on your eyelids, but it provides an easy and good canvas for your eyeshadows. It makes blending easier and the color payoff is brighter and more vivid.

”There are different kinds of eyes primers. The one I’m using now is an eye primer that will make the color pop so the pigment looks more solid,” Cleto explained in her master class. “But also, you can use a black base, a white base, or even an eye crayon!”

This way, the colors of your eye makeup pop and look way more vibrant than without! On Raejell Roxas, Cleto applied a layer of eye primer, making sure to cover the whole eyelid, by the brow bone, extending to the tail of the eyebrow, and even the undereye.

Find the Right Brush

The brush is one of the hardest tools to worry about when it comes to eye makeup. There are just too many options and too many brushes with specific uses that confuse too many beginners.

“If you want to do eyeshadows, I would recommend a fluffy, tapered brush to help you blend,” Cleto recommended. It’s versatile and fairly easy to use for applying matte eyeshadows and blending them out, creating an airbrush and gradient effect. By going in small, circular motions or wiper motions on Raejell, the edges of blue eyeshadow blends seamlessly with the other shadows used.

However, when it comes to glitter, Cleto opts to use her fingers since she’ll have more control of the product and where she wants to apply it. “Personally, I prefer using my fingers. It’s easier to stamp the glitter on than using a brush,” Cleto explained. Once the glitters are all in place, she uses her brush once again to blend everything seamlessly.

The Finishing Touch

Once the eye makeup is snatched to perfection and blended together seamlessly, Janica Cleto doesn’t stop there. She grabs her concealer, puts a little bit on her brush, and goes over the edges and the under eyes. This is to make sure that there aren’t any stray powders and glitters all over the face and that the eyes look clean.
