Although it’s difficult to pinpoint the exact origin of this style, several significant historical events can be linked to it. While most people associate this look with Boy Scouts, it was also popular among World War I and II soldiers stationed in Africa. In the 1940s, this fashion trend became famous on the American fashion scene. In a now-iconic shot from 1940, waiters dressed as cowboys at Dallas’ Log Lodge Tavern serve a female clientele, causing quite a scandal among moralists at the time.

Dries Van Noten, in their remarkable SS2023 collection, paired printed western boots with stylish short shorts, creating numerous stunning ensembles. Meanwhile, Givenchy’s FW2023 menswear collection took a similar approach, and the results were just as enticing.

Celebrities such as Troye Sivan and Pedro Pascal were spotted wearing this matching set. At the Cannes Film Festival, Troye turned heads as he wore a Valentino ensemble designed by Pierpaolo Piccioli, paired with Valentino eyewear by Akoni Group.
