It is often said that after every storm, the sun will smile; which was the case for our second stay in Bangkok, Thailand. In the wash of a new morning, the daylight streamed golden through the window, dispelling the enveloping clouds that had blanketed the city. The vibrancy of the atmosphere felt like a summer renaissance: lively, vigorous, and so to one’s intuition, a joie de vivre — the same essence that embodies the buoyant character of Aesop’s Virēre Eau de Parfum.

Described as a “verdant memory” evoked via aromas, Virēre blends an intricate range of sun-warmed citrus fruits, fragrant fig trees, and green tea notes — capturing a radiant reminiscence of sundrenched vistas and fragrant summer breezes. “There is something poetic to me about taking time to be under the fig tree and to make the right tea,” long-term fragrance collaborator Barnabé Fillion shared, referring to how he drew from reflections of his personal holiday memories in creating the scent.
“Each time I think about the fragrance, I see myself in this moment, or during times spent cycling on little roads lined with fragrant trees that perfume the air,” he continues. “Such points of inspiration led to an intricate blend that conjures the many aspects of fig, from rich woodness to sumptuous verdancy and sprightly citrus notes.”
The scent profile
Inside Aesop’s aromatic sanctuary, Virēre awaits — an offering that conjures the sumptuous verdancy, sprightly citrus, and rich woodiness of a fresh fig. The scent opens with green notes of Galbanum and Petitgrain, uplifted by the ever-sparkling Bergamot. The heart notes hold warmer herbaceous depths, with Green Tea, Mastic and sprightly Pink Pepper suggestive of a steaming cup of tea infused with fresh fig. The evocation extends with Cedar, Green Mate and Hay, unveiling a luxuriant vegetal richness.
Perhaps the most sentimental fragrance from the line, Virēre echoes how memories return to us in non-linear, unexpected forms — providing a one-of-a-kind sensory experience that usher thoughts back to moments of treasured simplicity.
Returning to the calm
Virēre’s artful notion is conveyed at its exclusive event. Held at the meditative space of Rin at Raintree Bangkok, guests are invited to an intricate journey to a world of summer reverie — accompanied with visuals, performances, installations, and experiences that treads a path away from the hectic everyday and into the sun-dappled grounds.
The launch provided an in-depth exploration of the scent: displays of postcards play on the notion of travel memories, still and motion footage are exhibited to express the way in which memory comes through flashes — all of which are carefully curated to restore and stimulate the senses, encouraging to recall memories or provoke curiosity. “With Virēre Eau de Parfum, we will take our customers deep into its verdant world, allowing them to create their own connections with the aroma through multisensorial experiences,” Aesop Creative Director, Ai Kato said.
