Getting a pet changes you. It gives you a sense of responsibility to take care of two lives—yours and your pet’s. With the joy that animals bring into our lives, treating them right should be the case. After all, they are living beings who also need care and attention just like humans do.
In the Philippines, we have a breed of dogs called aspins, or Asong Pinoy. They usually roam around the streets, keeping a lot of Filipinos company. However, due to them not having actual owners, some of them are mistreated. People also tend to discriminate them for not being pure-breeds.
That is why Philippine Animal Welfare Society, also known as PAWS, continues its legacy to advocate for the rights of our aspins and give them the love that they deserve through adoption.
Now with the help of Alden Richards, the advocacy for aspins continues through “I Love My Aspin” campaign. Through this movement, Alden advocates for fair and just treatment for aspins. Joining him is his very own seven-year-old aspin, Chichi!
According to Alden in his interview with PAWS, “With this campaign, I want to tell everyone na I am a proud aspin parent. I think the aspins need to be talked about more – how they make great pets and that they deserve na magkaroon ng pamilyang mamahalin at magmamahal sa kanila.”
Native-breed owners can also join the movement and use their own platforms to raise awareness on choosing to adopt aspins and appreciate them.
Along with Alden, Heart Evangelista is joining this campaign as well.
