See all the designers Catriona Gray wore as she dares to live the epic dream in New York City for #MakingMEGA June 2019.
Like any other queen, reigning Miss Universe Catriona Gray deserves nothing but the best. With her monumental victory bringing tremendous pride for countless Filipinos, it’s only fitting that MEGA’s June cover backdrop will none other be the city where dreams envisioned are fulfilled.
Famed for being the vessel of world-class talents conquering bigger heights, New York City served as the perfect inspiration for the creative direction of Catriona’s cover. This paved the way for MEGA Fashion Editor Jeb Fronda to impeccably showcase the veracious regality of world-class Filipino craftsmanship in fashion.
Her styling mirrored the dramatic resplendence of the skyscrapers surrounding our very own Miss Universe. But more than that, even if the surrounding towers of the concrete jungle radiates such beauty, Catriona Gray didn’t fail to shine amongst the towering buildings when she emerged in metallic ensembles—enter the silver linings.
For her first look, Catriona Gray wore a knitted sculptural dress by Ebiro that stunningly reflected the allure of the Big Apple’s architectural glory. Given its powerful statement sleeves, sheer pieces with sculptural forms prove that it’s undoubtedly a perfect dress for a queen.
Known for creating such exquisite designs—especially after seeing his MEGA Fashion Week collection—it’s just right that we tap Neric Beltran. So in our June cover shoot, Catriona Gray actually donned two of his pieces. She had gone all out with extravagant embellishments wearing a silver dress, paired with feathered ankle-strapped heels by Jefferson Si.
Then the moment she changed wearing Neric’s ruffled fringed dress, it easily gave the playful drama we all needed—thanks to the delicate balance of tulle and beaded fringe.
Rob Ortega was also tapped for this special issue with our very own Miss Universe. He is notorious for showcasing feminine silhouettes, and he delivered no less than that. Catriona wore a beautifully layered embellished short dress that effortlessly accentuated her gorgeous hourglass physique.
Exuding the real aura of a queen, Catriona Gray showed us how to flawlessly strike a pose. By wearing a silver knitted backless dress by Eugenio Tidalgo, it only seemed like she can easily command the attention of the crowd. After all, she is the Miss Universe.
And finally, while the queen has only been in the Empire City for almost a year, it already looked like she’s a certified New Yorker. Wearing Jinkie Tan’s silver pleated ruffled dress paired with embellished court shoes by Jefferson Si, Catriona is beyond doubt a force to be reckoned with in the city that never sleeps.
