The Nail Edit: All the Manicure Trends to Try This Fall Season

Patent leather, chocolate glazed donut, aura color—the season’s latest wave of nail designs appeal to a new approach to color play. A twist to a classic lick of polish, these looks delve into a creative form of textures, finishes, and embellishments to create a look that feels more true to you. It’s prefaced by self-expression and is even approved by personalities like Megan Fox, Hailey Bieber, and Olivia Rodrigo.

As mentioned, there is no shortage of options when it comes to nail edits. To guide you, we listed down some of the standouts for the season.

Patent leather nails

Patent leather nails are named the manicure of the season for a reason. A cure to mattes, this look features high-volume, rich deep hues with a glossy, patent leather finish for a mirror-like shine. It is easily accomplished with the choice of the right formula. A combination of classic cream formula for the polish and a shiny viscous top coat can easily recreate the trend.

Chocolate glazed donut nails

The “glazed donut effect” has made a name for itself in the beauty sphere. Popularized by Rhode founder Hailey Bieber, the delicious trend denotes a healthy, plump, and luminescent glow on the skin while a pearlescent finish is done for nails. The glazed donut nails first made its debut when the model was seen wearing a sheer white manicure. Now, the look received a fall update with a chocolate swirl iteration.

Aura nails

Aura nails are making a case for color this season. As the name suggests, the look incorporates a melange of colors in a freeform design. It is done with the use of an airbrush technique to blend the hues seamlessly and to create that signature aura look. Make it more personal by opting for shades based on your own aura or on colors that lift your mood.

Reversed french nails

A new take on a classic design, this trend is a combination of french nails and ombré art. It’s nothing short of stunning. In fact, it’s easy to recreate, too. Mostly, a light or natural polish is placed on the nail as it artistically blends into a darker color towards the tip. The hues can also be shaped into any design to add more character to the overall look. Here, Megan Fox opted for a different approach that adds a “dripping” effect.

Chrome nails

Chrome nails are a mainstay in the manicure category. A softer and daintier version of a classic metallic lacquer, this nail trend features a gleaming, mirror-like finish that adds dimension to any polish hue. It is achieved by using a rubbing chrome powder or varnish, and can even be done in different hues such as gold, silver, or copper.
