In a celebration of its 35th anniversary, the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde proudly introduces the Benilde Open Design and Art 2024, an initiative that beckons artists, architects, technologists, engineers, and other creative practitioners to contribute proposals for projects that have yet to bask in the light of day.

Launching the Benilde Open Call
Embarking on a thematic exploration of the curious mindset, the Benilde Open Call invites proposals centered around curiosities related to movement and its interplay with sustainability, the dynamic exchange between craft and technology, and the symbiosis of the virtual and the real. This call passionately seeks design and art projects characterized by an insatiable appetite for investigation and experimentation, fostering a culture of tinkering that propels both renovation and innovation.
Submission of proposals kicked off on December 1, 2023 and will conclude on January 31, 2024, with the eagerly anticipated announcement of selected proposals slated for March 2024.
The discerning eyes of a distinguished jury, comprising both local and international advocates from the creative industries, will carefully review and select the projects. To further fuel the flames of creativity, ten outstanding projects will each be granted up to PHP 300,000, net of taxes, providing vital support to bring these visionary endeavors to life.
Elevating the Benilde experience with the Best of Benilde
Complementing the Benilde Open Design and Art 2024 is the Best of Benilde, an exuberant showcase of juried degree exhibitions featuring the works of talented students. Open to all students across various disciplines, this initiative extends an invitation to submit proposals that resonate with the theme of curiosities, spanning sustainability and movement, the convergence of craft and technology, and the exploration of digital or virtual realms.
The Best of Benilde poses intriguing questions: Can such a world exist? Can it transcend imagination? Can we lay the groundwork for these fantastical ideas to materialize into reality?
A glimpse into the future of design and art
Dedicated to shaping art and design sensibilities, the Benilde Design and Art Open 2024 champions innovative and collaborative projects within and beyond the school’s boundaries. Facilitated by a dynamic team of convenors, including Ayi Magpayo, Rita Nazareno, Gabby Lichauco, Joselina Cruz, and Dindin Araneta, alongside Benilde President and visual artist Br. Dodo Fernandez, this project embodies a creative democracy that transcends boundaries of geography, social status, privilege, gender, power, and education.
The convenors express, “In the spirit of any Open, we affirm our welcome to proposals from diverse disciplines and inspirations. The inquisitiveness of a curious mind could well be the impetus in the articulation of a multiplicity of creativities.”
As the Benilde Open Design and Art 2024 unfolds, it promises to be a testament to the limitless possibilities when curiosity takes place in the realm of creativity.
