Edgy Makeup and Rhinestone Accents Dominated the BYS Fashion Week Day Two Runway

By

The second day of this momentous three-day event continued to serve eclectic beauty looks as it showcased everything from hyper-glam and sultry to edgy and grunge edits.

And just like that, BYS successfully commenced another installment of its fashion week. Designers Kaye Morales and Bonita Penaranda captured the admiration of attendees as they presented a selection of standout garments that defined the future of the industry. It’s obvious that each collection served as the main star of the night, but the beauty direction definitely deserves the recognition, too.

Backstage, hairstylists and makeup artists boasted creative energy as they supplied looks that accompanied each lineup. According to Gery Peñaso, head makeup artist, Morales and Penaranda provided the vision behind the beauty direction. The “Unchained” 2023 collection encapsulates the edgy look, while JustBonita’s new line embraces a hyper-glam status. The backstage was as busy as it can be, but like the first installment, it gave full access to all the trends that will take the world by storm after the shows are long over.

For this story, we are giving you another preview inside the show’s beauty department, and a peek at some standout looks from the space. Keep reading to see the second day’s best beauty highlights.

Face rhinestones

Rhinestones were simply the main star of JustBonita’s beauty vision. Makeup artists carefully embellished every model’s face with silver gem detailings evoking a sense of hyper-glam to accompany her line of garments. Complementing the accents were the perfectly smoked eyes that made each look even more desirable. The concept was straightforward, but it was undeniably a scene-stealer.

Wispy lashes

Chie Filomeno proved that clean beauty is one quintessential category in that realm. The star’s fresh skin was enhanced with a swish of blush and bronzer, while her glazed donut lips completed the look. Captured as one of the focal points of the makeup, a set of long and wispy eyelashes accentuated her eyes. Consider it as a minimal detail with maximum impact.

Black swan eyes

Nadine Lustre is lauded as a beauty maven for a reason. For the show, the artist’s lids were defined with a matte blue liner that was deployed at the inner and outer edges to create her signature fox-eye look. A shimmered format was also drawn at her inner lids to evoke an editorial appeal. Nadine’s look embodied a modern black swan with a balance of a feline approach.

Deep mauve lips

Arci Muñoz made a case for deep mauve lips just in time for the fall season. For the Kaye Morales show, the actress donned the lip shade on the runway, and captured the attention of beauty fans in the room. Arci’s look was balanced with smokey eye makeup with a hint of metallic sheer.

Embellished eye looks

Makeup artists took a bold cat eye look into a new, elevated level with the use of embellishments. A standout iteration can be seen on model Jessica Yang’s lids for JustBonita’s show. It encapsulated a sultry-meets-fun look that perfectly flattered her fringe headpiece.

Double-winged liner

The runway also supplied new ways to wear eyeliner. A double-winged approach, as seen on model Lou Yanong, is one format that can be easily adapted to any beauty routine. To recreate the look, apply the liner to the top lash before extending it outward, ending in a winged tip.  For the second wing, apply the liner to the bottom lash line that echoes the first wing. Any eyeliner format can be used for this look, but for a sharper wing, opt for a liquid formula.

Grunge edit

Morales’ motif gave makeup artists a reason to play with the concept of edgy beauty. Mostly, grunge and punk elements were omnipresent throughout the beauty direction. A combination of jet-black liners and barely-there brows appeared to be the show’s format, delivering a “punk is not dead” appeal. Artists like Janica Cleto experimented with an array of graphic eye looks that complemented the designer’s vision. Elsewhere, the spiky hair rounded out the entire look.

Glitter tears

One of Euphoria’s signature eye looks received an editorial treatment for Kaye Morales. Festival glitters were strategically placed under the eyes of the models to recreate a “tears” look. To try it out yourself, use a primer to build the shape, then apply the glitter second.
