Calum Scott’s Only Human Tour in Manila captivated fans with heartfelt performances and emotional tributes. From “You Are The Reason” to surprise Filipino phrases, his debut concert left the audience moved and wanting more.
Last night, October 30, British singer-songwriter Calum Scott held his very first concert in the Philippines. Though it’s the singer’s second time in the country, this is his first time performing as a part of his Only Human Tour. Calum didn’t disappoint as he wowed everyone with his voice and stage presence. Needless to say, he knows exactly how to please a crowd and have fun with it.
You Are The Reason
A tribute to the fans—that’s how Calum performed the song that night. With the song’s meaning that transcends all kinds of love, he sang it this time to show his appreciation to the fans that filled up the New Frontier Theater. Calum didn’t fail to touch everyone’s heart with his delivery, hitting high notes one after another almost so effortlessly to the listener.
Hotel Room
As a part of the acoustic session at the concert, Calum shared a quiet moment with the fans as he sang ‘Hotel Room’. The singer once revealed that his songs were mostly inspired by unrequited love and we sure felt where he was coming from. Every word touched the hearts of everyone in the crowd, hitting us where it hurts.
Not Dark Yet
Paying tribute to the late Bob Dylan, Calum performed an acoustic version of ‘Not Dark Yet’. The song—also found in his album—was an intimate moment for him and the fans. With only a guitar to accompany him, he sang it almost like a lullaby sending everyone a nostalgic feeling with his rendition of the song.
No Matter What
“Who’s cutting onions?” most of the crowd whispers right after this emotional song. From the moment he told his coming out story to the crowd, everyone was already in the brink of tears. It was indeed bittersweet for Calum and we felt that even more as he sang his newest single, ‘No Matter What’. A storytelling of some sorts, every word etched deep in the hearts of the audience and the next thing we know, we were tearfully clapping our hands for the singer.
Sore Eyes
Bringing the crowd’s mood back up, Calum performed an unreleased song. He, though, has revealed that it will be included in the deluxe edition of the album (to be released by the end of November). The song serves as a tribute to his sister who has discovered his talent and pushed him to perform. The song, though upbeat, has very strong lyrics that very well expresses how he feels for the person he owes a lot of things to.

Dancing On My Own
Calum’s last song was probably the most significant one. The very song that put him in the spotlight was the one that closed the show. Knowing how he earned a golden buzzer at Britain’s Got Talent through this song only got the crowd even more invested as he sang it once again. Calum left everyone with a swelling high note that overpowered every other high note he has belted throughout the concert.
Learning The Language
Funny how Calum knows exactly when to say the punchlines he has learned and reserved for the concert. More than just the usual “mahal ko kayo” and “mabuhay“, the singer made an effort to show his Filipino skills. He caught everyone off guard when he let out a quick “anyare” that sent everyone on a laughing fit. And just when everyone thought it was over, Calum gave us another surprise punchline that again sparked a burst of laughter from the crowd: “pa’no mo nasabi?” he randomly says.
Indeed, his concert was an emotional roller coaster. As promised by Calum himself at the beginning of the show, he took us in for a ride. And it was a pleasant one of course. He gave a show so unforgettable we’d love to see him come back with more.
