Her outstanding career and inspiring purpose is what makes Camille Villar a modern Filipino woman
We’ve all heard the phrase “modern woman of today,” but what does it mean to be hailed as such? Do they recognize the grit behind the perseverance of one’s achievements or their ability to balance a work ethic that consists of many tasks?
It’s a criteria that we have yet to unfold, but as the days go by, we see more women going above and beyond in both their work and private lives, and we get to see this with Camille Villar’s efforts over the years as she becomes a modern Filipina woman.
The fight for the youth
A current seat at the House of Representatives as Deputy Speaker, Camille Villar has used this position for her advocacy—educating young Filipinos on entrepreneurship. It’s quite a specific request, but after studying the younger generation and being called “the most entrepreneurial generation ever,” Camille saw this as an opportunity to strengthen the dreams of the youth.
And with that, she authored a bill that mandates the teaching entrepreneurship during Senior High for both public and private schools nationwide. Think of it as her own way of supporting aspiring young entrepreneurs of today.
Alongside this, she has also seen the growth of young creatives in the Philippines, especially those who have the heart for film. With Dolly De Leon’s steady climb in the global film industry, the Deputy Speaker recognizes the power of creatives and has been wanting to assist filmmakers who wish to win such prestigious awards abroad.
Her support would be translated to financial backing as determined Filipino filmmakers strive towards the Oscars. With confidence, she believes that once the local film industry is reinvigorated with such standards, it would become a huge boost for the campaign of both locally and internationally-based Filipino filmmakers.
Lastly, she shares her support towards the batch of fresh graduates as graduation season slowly nears. Her way of encouraging these graduates is to provide them with one-time financial support as they hunt for their jobs. The bill has been approved by the House panel and, in her own words, “We are investing in our youth because we are also investing for our future,” she said.
Local help
After the pandemic, it is safe to say that Camille has learned more than a thing or two on how to improve the health system in the Philippines. Granted, her work is mostly translated in Las Piñas, but it is already a leadership that many would look up to.
To name a few of her actions, she authored a law that increased the bed capacity of both Las Piñas General Hospital and Satellite Trauma Center to 500, which was originally 200. A construction of a new hospital building is also currently in the works, while Republic Act No. 11497, signed into law last November 13, 2020, aims to increase bed capacity, as well as upgrade the hospital’s professional healthcare services and facilities.
And since the new hospital will be a 12-storey building, Camille has instructed that the doctors, nurses, and support staff be increased in order to serve the people with their utmost care and attention. We can see this unfold in real life with the recent launch of her vaccine incentive program called “May Bahay sa Bakuna,” which is to increase vaccine coverage in Las Piñas. It is an effort that was much appreciated as the city passed the vaccine milestone and achieved immunity early on.
Outstanding awards
Her work as a public servant and entrepreneur was recognized abroad as she was awarded with various awards such as Government Hero of the Year in 2022 that honored her COVID-19 response, while the silver award of Female Executive of the Year was given to her for her role as the President and CEO of AllValue Group.
A woman of purpose
Lawmaker, entrepreneur, and a mother–Camille Villar is an example of what it means to be a modern-day woman. She became a woman of ambition with a purpose to uplift Filipinos in all means and aspects in their lives. She has shown us that one’s efforts are truly worth fighting for as the future generations will reap merits in their own time.
