In her homecoming parade, Catriona Gray donned a modern Collado terno by Mak Tumang—designer of the same gowns she wore for Miss Universe. Wearing a Sampaguita-inspired jumpsuit accentuated by embroidered Anahaw leaves, she was truly a vision on top of the red float.
In an Instagram post, Mak revealed that the look is titled, “Sampaguita: A Promise Fulfilled.” Primarily inspired by our national flower, he shared that it has a lot to do with the concept of coming home.
“You know you are home when its distinct sweet and aromatic fragrance tickles your olfactory sense,” he explained. So as flowers have always been given to welcome dignitaries, her look was only fitting for her homecoming parade.
In addition, legend has it that the etymology of the Sampaguita was derived from the Filipino words, “sumpa kita” which means “I promise you.” That’s why Mak’s ravishing terno impeccably symbolized the homecoming of Catriona as a promise fulfilled.
