David Licauco Embraces His Newfound Success in Showbiz

By

“This interview wouldn’t happen if it were five months ago.” Level-headed heartthrob David Licauco gets real about his fame trajectory thanks to his current hit series, Maria Clara at Ibarra

Three major events and an endorsement in just one week? That is the life of athlete, model, and now in-demand actor David Licauco who is juggling a primetime show and three businesses at the moment. “I treat showbiz like any of my other businesses.” MEGA Entertainment caught up with David in Ortigas for his latest endorsement, which is a spa center because people around him were jokingly saying that relaxation is what he needs right now. It seems though that he won’t be slowing down anytime soon and is even determined to keep striking while the iron is hot.

David has been in showbiz over the last decade, but nowadays, he is the talk of the local tinseltown. Word of mouth traveled fast over the last month thanks to his effective portrayal of Fidel in Maria Clara at Ibarra alongside Barbie Forteza who plays his love interest, Klay. Fans have dubbed them as Filay and are pushing their tandem to trend on every night.

The love and interest of the fans for David got so intense that even his supporters got to dig up old tweets of his from 2013 about studying Jose Rizal, which is ironic given his involvement in the hit. In the tweet, he said, “Hassle joseriz.. What do we care about Jose Rizal’s girls and vices!” and was also followed by, “Studying Jose Rizal’s life for tom’s finals. Ano makukuha ko dito.” To David, he felt lucky he wasn’t crucified by the online world for it. He also got anxious because there might be more of those playful tweets in his timeline, saying, “Nagulat ako and medyo nag-worry ako na baka mayroon pa ako nasabi na nahalungkat din kasi dati, hindi naman ako artista at medyo pilyo akong bata so baka mayroon lang ako nasulat doon. Baka magulat iyong mga tao!”

Because of the love from his supporters, David and Barbie’s show is extended by their network, making it go head to head with Primetime King Coco Martin’s mega hit, Batang Quiapo. Because of this, fans have been so passionate about pitting the two shows against each other. However, this is no sweat for David because he explains, “I don’t believe in network wars. The reason why we have these shows is for us to make people happy. Alam naman natin na nakakapagod na iyong buhay minsan at [marami nang] problema so bakit pa tayo nag-network wars? Siguro nasa networks na lang iyan kung sino ang mas magaling. Healthy competition.”
