Ahead of his MEGA Fashion Week Holiday 2019 runway show, we highlight the celebrated fashion rule-breaker, Bang Pineda.
If you fear oblivion, then there’s only one way to fight that—leave a legacy. And to achieve that, there are only two paths: be a rule maker or a rule breaker. Although in Bang’s case, it’s safe to say that he has the best of both worlds.
Bang Pineda has been in the industry for quite some time now. Primarily a fashion stylist, he has also emerged as one of Philippine’s sought-after menswear and streetwear designers. “In general, Bang, the brand, is very streetwear. You would see hints of sportswear, leisure, and all that,” the designer tells MEGA. And because of his design aesthetic, his creations have actually been worn by several celebrities—from Sarah Geronimo, Nadine Lustre, to James Reid.
But more than his street-ready ensembles, what truly sets him apart is how he is able to break the barriers of conventional clothing. Because as he constantly breaks fashion’s norms, he also breathes life to the new rules of style. Cue his brilliant avante-garde take denim on denim and deconstructed tailored suits, to name a few.
So, as he kickstarts MEGA Fashion Week 2019 presenting his holiday collection tonight, we sure would be surprised once more with his innovative contributions to Philippine fashion. After all, Bang believes that streetwear is for everyone. “My clothes are genderless—wherever you fit, ‘yun ang suotin mo.”
