The French fashion house celebrated Mexican culture with their recent Cruise collection held in Mexico City

Lately, fashion houses have been taking a flight to their chosen destinations to showcase their Cruise collections. Louis Vuitton and Gucci held theirs in Seoul, while Chanel had their runway setup in Los Angeles—each house reinterpreting city and heritage codes in their designs.

Dior has now joined the list as they held their show in Mexico City, where they celebrated textile and techniques from various indigenous communities by having the chance to work closely with the people. And as we see the collection as a whole, we listed down the trends that reigned on the runway.

Butterfly emblems

It’s a charming touch amidst the striking shades of black and red, and neutral tones of creams and whites. The butterfly emblems were mostly done in a seemingly gold material and a lengthy finish, which definitely elevated each ensemble.

Laced up

We’re going to have to honor the people behind the intricate lace in the collection, seeing how the patterns were meticulously done. Whether as coordinates or see-through dresses, each one reminds us of the past fashion in Mexico, as well as Frida Kahlo’s signature fashion.

Details in red

Infused in their sleek dresses and their tailored jackets, the collection had a series of red detailings in their designs. They were done in different areas, from the sides to the bust—a much needed element that added depth to the collection.

Loose silhouettes

Though some silhouettes were cinched in by the waist with a belt, the pieces were mostly styled to showcase the airy feel of the collection. Sleeves were done in a subtle bell form while skirts were mostly A-line, which created a free-spirited feel for the whole collection.

Understated layers

While layering is still a style trick most of us use up to this day, Dior was able to incorporate this trend with such subtlety. Whether its a simple vest or black coat with red embroidery, there’s a certain tone of elegance they were able to achieve with their use of layers.
