Since her debut, Blackpink’s Kim Jisoo has proven time and time again that she’s more than just a pretty face. From her talents in singing, dancing, and acting, topped with a warm personality, it’s no wonder she’s so popular. It’s also a known fact among her fans that the idol is also a book lover, establishing herself with “beauty and brains” image as fans love to call her. Jisoo is often seen carrying a book wherever she goes like in airports or if not, she’s recommending books to her fans through Blackpink’s V-Live channel.
Due to her busy schedule and upcoming drama, it’s been a while since we last saw Jisoo carrying a book in her hands, so here’s a list of books Jisoo was seen reading or she personally recommended to her fans through the years.
Demian
By Hermann Hesse
Even with its German origins, this book was actually a popular title in Korea. Demian also made an appearance in the Korean drama, The Producers starring Kim Soo Hyun and IU. According to a book reviewer, Demian taps into the particular Korean storytelling sensibility, “They are much more enamored of sad endings, and they tend to be much more patient with stories that unfold in such a way that the protagonists never had a real hope of changing the outcome.” Jisoo recommended this book in Blackpink’s reality show, Blackpink House.
The Great Gatsby
By F. Scott Fitzgerald
Jisoo made a lot of recommendations in Blackpink’s CH+ and one of them is the classic book from F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby. Set in the Jazz Age, the novel follows mysterious millionaire Jay Gatsby and his obsession to reunite with his former lover, Daisy Buchanan.
Nietzsche’s Words Reinterpreted In Modern Words
By Haruhiko Shiratori
With the book titles mentioned above, we can see a pattern in Jisoo’s reading list. Looks like the Blackpink member is into thought provoking and philosophical literary pieces. A book recommendation from Blackpink House, this book by Haruhiko Shiratori is about one of the greatest philosophers of the 19th century, Friedrich Nietzsche.
The Miracles Of The Namiya General Store
By Keigo Higashino
Another book Jisoo recommends is this fantasy novel, The Miracles Of The Namiya General Store, which tells the story of three thieves who inadvertently become advice purveyors after seeking shelter in an abandoned store.
Me Before You
By Jojo Moyes
Here’s a more popular one, romance novel, Me Before You by Jojo Moyes, which was adapted into a film adaptation starring Emilia Clarke and Sam Claflin. She also recommended this book through Blackpink’s CH+.
In Search Of Lost Time
By Marcel Proust
Jisoo mentioned this book in Blackpink’s CH+. In Search Of Lost time by Marcel Proust follows the narrator’s recollections of childhood and experiences into adulthood in the late 19th century and early 20th century in high society France, while reflecting on the loss of time and lack of meaning in the world.
Jisoo as a writer
According to a Twitter post, Jisoo dreamed of becoming an author and to publish a book one day. Besides being an avid reader, she’s also writing something everyday. Her love for mystery genre books was confirmed through this video captured from V-Live.
