Dona Lim’s new collection marries the icons of the 90s with her signature laid-back fashion

Interpretations are very much common in the fashion world, which then becomes a blend of genres that is unique to an observer’s eyes. Such pieces are products of the inspirations that creatives have in their mind, leading to a refreshing take on a certain style or trend. And we see this happen once again with an esteemed local designer that marries her love for the 90s and her signature laid-back aesthetic.

With an affinity for light materials and soft cuts, Dona Lim’s designs can be described as tropical chic leisure. Although this time around, she channels a subtle edge that have us traveling back to the iconic days of the 90s.

She kept in mind the simplistic fashion of the past with the minute use of flamboyant silhouettes to give the spotlight to its minimalist structures and details. We see this take place in her new collection that exudes such sophistication with motion.

While the designs have their own interpretation of sensuality, the play in texture takes place, making each piece uniquely distinct from one another. Pleated fabrics were used to create her staple relaxed forms, as well as the incorporation of sequined pieces that were reminiscent of the gleaming picks in the 90s, while the see-through lace gave a nice touch of allure to the collection.

As per Dona, it was also the icons back in the day that inspired the collection—fashion models that truly made an impact in the industry because of their distinct style and outstanding versatility. To name a few of the icons that made it to her most recent set of work were Naomi Campbell, Kylie Minogue, and Kate Moss—whose names are actually used for a few of her pieces. A new collection that is in stow for the public to enjoy, you’ll be able to catch this line in SM Aura until the end of June.
