K-Pop boy group, WEi, answers all your questions about their newest album, IDENTITY : Challenge, in a MEGAStyle exclusive.
After successfully debuting in October last year with IDENTITY: First Sight, K-Pop boy group, WEi, is ready to comeback with the second half of their debut. JANG DAE HYEON, KIM DONG HAN, YOO YONG HA, KIM YO HAN, KANG SEOK HWA, KIM JUN SEO are giving you more of their natural swagger in IDENTITY: Challenge. You can expect only the best visuals, choreography, and vocal talent from WEi after being nominated for the Mnet Asian Music Award for Best New Male Artist and the Golden Disk Award Rookie Artist Award. The group has only improved since their debut. That’s why all the RUis of the Philippines can not wait to know more about the group and their second album. Have no fear, RUis, we’re here to give you an exclusive look in IDENTITY: Challenge. We know. There are too many questions about WEi that need to be answered, but here’s what we got so far.
MEGAStyle: How would you describe your second album? What type of album is it?
WEi: This album captures WEi overcoming trials and taking on new challenges, and also portrays WEi’s aspirations.
MS: Please introduce each song in the album’s tracklist.
WEi: ‘All Or Nothing (Prod. JANG DAE HYEON)’, ‘Diffuser’, ‘Breathing’, ‘Dancing In The Dark’ and ‘Winter, Flower’. It contains a lot of different colors of WEi. RUi will probably like it!
MS: How would you describe the concept for this album?
WEi: If we showed diversity through our two inner selves in our debut album, this album will be able to show fans WEi’s confident and more masculine side through the concept of taking on new challenges.
MS: What do you want to show fans through this album?
JANG DAE HYEON: I want to show how WEi moves forward without fear and share our new sexy and powerful aspects.
KIM DONG HAN: WEi’s powerful aspects.
YOO YONG HA: Much more upgraded performances!
KIM YO HAN: WEi’s challenging and powerful aspects.
KANG SEOK HWA: Through this album, I would like to show our endless growth and challenge of WEi.
KIM JUN SEO: WEi’s upgraded visuals.
MS: Please describe the title track of this album.
WEi: This is a hybrid trap genre song that uses oriental scales, with dynamic rap and vocals in harmony. It is a song that is harmonized with lyrics that contain WEi’s confidence and the willingness to take on challenges.
MS: How did you decide on the name for WEi’s fandom ‘RUi’? What does ‘RUi’ mean?
WEi: The fandom name ‘RUi’ is a name that the fans made themselves. There is a star called ‘RU’ and ‘WE’, and the ‘RU’ is the 16th star and ‘WE’ is the 17th. ‘RUi’ gave us a pretty name meaning that they will lead and light our way.
MS: In what ways did you grow / improve while preparing for the album? What are some things that were different this time around?
JANG DAE HYEON: It seems that we have improved in terms of the intensity and visual aspects.
KIM DONG HAN: I think we have improved in terms of performance and vocals
YOO YONG HA: I think it’s our intense performance.
KIM YO HAN: Performance part, stage, vocals, rap and also my physical strength.
KANG SEOK HWA: Since I am the main vocalist, I tried my best to express the vocal elements.
So It seems that there was an improvement on my vocal skill. Also I practiced the choreography very hard this time.
KIM JUN SEO: The process of preparing the album has become smoother. I could memorize the choreography quickly and my vocal seems to be improved more!
MS: What would be the most memorable moment since you debuted?
JANG DAE HYEON: It seems like every moment.
KIM DONG HAN: Debut showcase is the most memorable moment for me.
YOO YONG HA: It’s our debut stage.
KIM YO HAN: It is the day of the fan signing event with RUi.
KANG SEOK HWA: Fan signing event where I saw our fans for the first time!
KIM JUN SEO: When I had my first face-to-face fan signing event, I was very touched.
MS: Which song do you think your Filipino RUi will like the most?
JANG DAE HYEON: I hope you love the title song ‘All Or Nothing (Prod. JANG DAE HYEON)’ a lot.
KIM DONG HAN: ‘All Or Nothing (Prod. JANG DAE HYEON)’!
YOO YONG HA: It’s ‘Diffuser’!
KIM YO HAN: It’s probably the title song ‘All Or Nothing (Prod. JANG DAE HYEON)’.
KANG SEOK HWA: Wouldn’t it be the title song ‘‘All Or Nothing (Prod. JANG DAE HYEON)’ which has the most impact?
KIM JUN SEO: Maybe it’s the ‘All Or Nothing (Prod. JANG DAE HYEON)’!
MS: Who is the most fashionable member in WEi?
JANG DAE HYEON: Everyone is all good at fashion.
KIM DONG HAN: It’s probably KIM DONG HAN. Haha.
YOO YONG HA: It’s KIM DONG HAN.
KIM YO HAN: It’s KIM DONG HAN.
KANG SEOK HWA: It seems that each member has their own tastes and styles.
KIM JUN SEO: It’s me! Haha.
MS: Are you willing to go on tour in the Philippines one day? If yes, where do you love to visit?
JANG DAE HYEON: I want to go to Cebu and relax.
KIM DONG HAN: I want to visit Boracay and relax.
YOO YONG HA: I want to visit Boracay.
KIM YO HAN: I want to go to Cebu and Boracay.
KANG SEOK HWA: I want to enjoy a cool trip in Boracay in the future.
KIM JUN SEO: I visited Cebu when I was young and I want to go again!
MS: What do you want to achieve in 10 years as a K-pop idol?
JANG DAE HYEON: I want to become a popular artist.
KIM DONG HAN: To be on the Billboard chart.
YOO YONG HA: It is to make RUi happy!
KIM YO HAN: Become a global idol group!
KANG SEOK HWA: I would like to promote WEi to the world and spread our music and k-pop widely and positively at the same time.
KIM JUN SEO: I want to be on the Billboard chart.
