From Richard Quinn’s take on modern flapper hair to Kim Shui’s edgy Beetlejuice bangs, here are this season’s standout hair moments

The Fall/Winter 2023 season is an exciting chapter for the fashion sphere. In retrospect, emerging talents and notable designers delivered a saga of creativity, theatricality, and innovation that is poised to shape the future of the industry. But aside from fashion, it was a big fête for beauty, too. Each collection introduced an influx of memorable hair and makeup takes that deserved recognition. One example that stands out is Richard Quinn’s Fall/Winter 2023 showcase. The label’s visual direction took a flapper-era turn with its interpretation of a finger wave hairstyle.

Now that Fall/Winter 2023 season has come to an end, we look back at all the creative hair visuals spotted on the runway. From Kim Shui’s Beetlejuice bangs to Simone Rocha’s coquette accents, here are these season’s standout hair moments.

Modern flapper

Richard Quinn’s interpretation of a blooming secret garden is a true visual treat for the fashion sphere. In the show notes, the label positioned the collection as the aftermath of the time when the darkness falls and chandeliers alight. While the overall direction for makeup embraced a floral botanical theme through a play on frosty palettes, the hairstyle can’t be left unmentioned. A modern version of a finger wave updo integrated the right amount of flapper appeal to the overall look.

Coquette accents

Simone Rocha showcased a new sense of storytelling as she honored the Irish harvest festival called Lughnasadh in her Fall/Winter 2023 showcase. Inside the Central Hall Westminster, guests witnessed a selection of intricately embroidered pieces, lace gowns, and slip dresses. Another noteworthy mention includes the designer’s coquette-inspired beauty direction. On the runway, ribbon detailings were used to punctuate a number of hairstyles.

Beetlejuice bangs

Kim Shui captured the world’s attention as she embraced a nostalgic sense of sexy, sultry, and cool motif for her collection. In the presentation, the label featured a line of laced catsuits, asymmetrical dresses, and faux fur-trimmed coats. 90s-inspired beauty looks also made an appearance on the show. But the standout detail? A jagged fringe inspired by Beetlejuice’s Lydia Deetz. The risque look is often described as a grungy and spiky take on bangs that are sure to up the ante of any hairstyle.

Sleek chic

A sleek hair visual remains ubiquitous in the fashion sphere’s visual direction. Take Maria Grazia Chiurri’s Dior Fall/Winter 2023 showcase as an example. In the display, a padded headband was used to elevate the models’ polished hairstyle. It was also omnipresent in Hermes, Prada, and Louis Vuitton’s Fall 2023 collection. But who can blame them? It’s a fool-proof style that complements a wide range of embellishments and makeup formats.

Siren hair

Emilie Helmstedt captured a new form of creative language in her Fall/Winter 2023 collection. Inside Copenhagen’s Geologisk Museum, the label exhibited an artful twist on classic silhouettes like jumpsuits, maxi dresses, and puffed coats. The lacquered siren hairstyle is hard to miss, too. Considered the edgy sister of polished hair, the style is defined by a wet-like look that adds a subtle amount of statement. It’s also a hair format that is synonymous with Balenciaga, Undercover, and Rick Owens’ showcases.
