Fendi and Versace are definitely going down in fashion history for swapping houses. Meet Fendace.
From hybrid shows to pop star Dua Lipa making her runway debut for Versace, the recent fashion weeks have given us more than what all fashion lovers could have expected. But, it seems fashion houses aren’t quite finished with making historic moments just yet. Here comes Fendace, the result of the collaboration—or should we say, swapping of houses—between Fendi and Versace.
Held at Versace’s headquarters in Via Gesu in Milan, we got the first look of “Versace by Fendi — Fendi by Versace”. In a first in history of fashion, two fashion houses—Fendi and Versace—have swapped houses for one night only. Kim Jones and Silvia Venturini Fendi of Fendi took over Versace, while Donatella Versace gave Fendi a playful touch. The result is nothing short of fabulous and iconic, now called Fendace.
The collection is a mix of shimmers, playful prints, and a lot of logo love. Making it an even more memorable night for fashion, the pieces were worn by iconic supermodels such as Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, Gigi Hadid, and Emily Ratajkowski, to name a few.
“Fendace is about the need for sincerity in fashion today rather than strategy,” said Versace. Kim Jones felt the same way. Getting the chance to see the Versace archive was “mind-blowing,” he shared. “There are things I’d never had the chance to see with my own eyes. And when Donatella went to the Fendi archive she picked out things from the same period we were looking at, by chance. Also Donatella has never designed for another brand, and neither has Silvia so it was very interesting to see. But the reasons behind it were straightforward: we wanted to do something that was optimistic and fun as we return to live shows. And we wanted to do it because we love each other.”
