Miss Universe Philippines candidates performed their opening sequence in black ensembles by Filipino designer Chris Nick
The first segment of this year’s Miss Universe Philippines was nothing short of exciting and stylish as the candidates walked the runway in their black ensembles. It was all things chic and modern as several pieces were designed to evoke such elegance, while the others definitely had an alluring tone to it.
Who else do we look to with this kind of design? It’s none other than Chris Nick, the Filipino designer who has affinity for the classics translated with contemporary fashion. It’s quite easy to pinpoint his designs since he was able to introduce his distinctive style over the years. He stuck by his codes, which would often be black and white pieces, dainty bow details, and sultry cutouts balanced with signature silhouettes. Without a doubt, Chris Nick knows how to work his way around timeless fashion and showing us the limitless possibilities of creativity.
We see the same fashion reflected in the pieces he designed for the opening sequence of the coronation night. Latex bikini tops paired with maxi skirts, velvet mini dresses with cutouts by the waist, and sheer maxi dresses decorated with his signature bows—the designs seem simple for some, but for Chris, it’s an intentional factor in all of his designs, which is that the piece should never outshine the wearer.
