From February 21 till March 2, Central Saint Martins opens their doors for design lovers of the London fashion scene. Here you’ll see SHINY SHINY, an exhibit showcasing 55 collections from the MA Fashion Class of 2022. They are featuring 32 designers from all over the globe.

One of these designers includes Jessan Macatangay, a Filipino designer studying in the esteemed University of the Arts, Central Saint Martins. Macatangay has been featured in many publications during his time as a designer. His work has been seen on US Vogue, Vogue Italia, The New York Times, Vogue HK, Women’s Wear Daily, Net-a-Porter, Grazia UK, Milan Fashion Week, LOVE Magazine, and much more including our very own, MEGA Magazine.

This year, Macatangay took home 1st place for the L’Oréal Professionel Creative Award for Womenswear. This competition is for all Central Saint Martins students from the MA Fashion Class of 2022. The judges were Julia Sarr-Jamois, Osman Ahmed, and Tianwei Zhang. Previously, Macatangay also won other awards–such as the Gold Prize for the 2020 Yinger Prize Global Womenswear Emerging Talent Contest for Graduates. This just goes to show how talented the young Filipino designer is.

Macatangay won the Womenswear division with his Sculptural Sensuality collection. The collection featured a total of six looks with six different models wearing the pieces. Each of the looks used unique silhouettes that thoughtfully shaped the women that wore them. He used four neutral tones for the looks. Two outfits were in mauve, one in a pale yellow, another in a bright yellow, one in pale pink, and lastly a dark gray look. What completed these outfits were matching strappy heels in beautifully made shapes.

Overall, the collection was a combination of modern looks that challenge the idea of flattering silhouettes. This just goes to show the craftsmanship of Macatangay and the attention to detail he has for all of his creations. It stood out from the rest because of the striking subtlety of the sculptured designs. Macatangay’s talent undoubtedly shines in his newest collection and we’re can’t wait to see what he has in store for the future.
