Looks like Rihanna’s living up to one of her hit songs as she just consistently work, work, work, work, work.
After dominating the beauty and lingerie industry, Rihanna continues her venture to fashion. Earlier this month, French conglomerate LVMH, which houses companies like Christian Dior and Louis Vuitton, officially confirmed that the Fenty fashion line is now part of its gilded stable.
So now, this only makes the newly-launched Fenty fashion brand a historic one. It marks the first time LVMH has introduced and built a new brand since Christian Lacroix in 1987. But more than this, Rihanna is the first woman of color to lead a major luxury fashion house.
In her interview with T Magazine, she explained that while being a black woman never alleviated her from being an outsider, it also never stopped her from building her own empire. “You’re going to be black wherever you go,” she said. “I’m young, I’m new to the family, [and] I’m a woman. Those factors do come into play, but I will not apologize for them, and I will not back down from being a woman, from being black, from having an opinion.”
Perhaps that’s why in an interview of Page six with Jahleel Weaver, Rihanna’s stylist who is now Fenty’s style director, shared that the company’s mission “is to really speak to how multifaceted today’s woman is. We’re thinking about each release as a different facet to a woman’s wardrobe and how she approaches dressing.”
With “structured silhouettes in subdued neutrals emphasized by strong shoulders, cinched waists, and exposed legs” highlighted in the inaugural items of the label, it clearly emanates the true aesthetic of Rihanna.
Fenty’s new collection will officially be launched on May 29 at fenty.com. Although if you’re in Paris, you can shop the new range at a pop-up store on May 24.
