Filipino designer, Francis Libiran, opens a new fashion exhibit showcasing his Universe collection at Sofitel Manila’s Event Lounge.
Filipino pageant fans would know that Francis Libiran was the designer who dressed Miss Universe Philippines 2021, Beatrice Luigi Gomez, during her run at the esteemed pageant. Libiran and his team worked on a total of six gowns that were made for the coronation night and evening gown segment of the Miss Universe pageant.
A total of 2 of the dresses were used for the big night, while the others were left as reserved options. Fortunately, they were also used for the campaign’s promotional material and for some of Beatrice’s guest appearances.
Now, the full Francis Libiran Universe Collection is now on display at the Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila. They opened their doors to friends, family, and the media last April 13, 2022 for the official opening and ribbon cutting of the exhibit. The Universe collection will stay at the hotel for anyone to see until the end of May this year.
The ribbon cutting was headed by Libiran. He was joined by Creative Director of Miss Universe Philippines–– Jonas Gaffud, Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila’s General Manager–– Olivier Larcher, National Director of Miss Universe–– Shamcey Supsup, and Miss Universe Philippines 2021–– Beatrice Luigi Gomez. Also in attendance was President and CEO of Francis Libiran–– Mr. Arsi Baltazar, Director of the Philippine Plaza Holdings–– Kazuhito Shibuya, and many more.
Francis Libiran’s Universe collection is a great reminder of the body of work the designer has done for the Miss Universe pageants. He has always been a great supporter of Filipina beauty queens and their journey towards the crown. In this particular collection, you can see Libiran’s great attention to detail, craftsmanship, and his talent for showcasing the female form in the best way possible.
“Before I design something for clients, I would really sit down, talk to them, and get to know them. That’s very important for me. I want to know how they are as a person. And I would always ask this question: how do you see yourself on that stage in front of the whole universe?” Libiran said.

Truly, Francis Libiran has created a mark of his own in the fashion scene, as well as in Philippine pageantry. He does this through empowering collaborations by always incorporating the woman behind the dress in the picture.
