With the anticipation at an all time high for the return of widely popular series, Game of Thrones, adidas strikes a drool-worthy collaboration that will have both the fans and non-believers racing fast for a pair.

There is no greater anticipation in recent television history than the impending series finale of the wildly popular HBO Original and George R. R. Martin show, Game of Thrones. From teasers that barely give any hint to fan theories trawling every possible reddit sub-thread, there is a definite constant reminder of the end in the awning. Or as they say in the landscape of the Seven Kingdoms: “Winter is coming.” Who dies? Who lives? And most importantly, who lives to tell the story? (Yes, this is a Hamilton reference, but the gravity of this string of words rings very true in this circumstance.)
While the rest of the fandom waits for the return of the show’s oddly comforting but ominous trumpeting in the opening credits, many brands have been churning out collaborations and partnerships that not only tide over until the beginning of the end, but it is highly worthy of the Game of Thrones insignia.
Inspired by the television series, adidas crafts six GOT-inspired colorways to the perennial favorite from the brand, the Ultra Boost. Taking cues from the Lannister and Targaryen houses, as well as of the Night’s Watch and White Walkers, the Game of Thrones x adidas pack is stylist as it is functional, where the neutral pairs boast of a lightweight knitted upper that allows the foot to splay naturally through a heightened gait cycle. Meanwhile, the responsive midsole and flexible outsole work together to deliver a smooth and energized ride. Subtle references continue to persist in the drop, where phrases such as “Winter Is Here” and “Hear Me Roar” can be found on the heel of each shoe.
Judging by the official releases of adidas, you need not be a hardcore Game of Thrones fan to appreciate and subsequently cop a pair of your own. If we are to base it solely on performance, then it is almost imperative you pick up a pair. Standing to be both a classic and a collector’s item, the collaboration is truly one for the books. Needless to say, there were more than enough oohs, aahhhs, and damns that went flying around when looking through this set. So, who’s up for a trip to Westeros? We know we are.
