We had the chance to have an exclusive interview with celebrity hairstylist Mycke Arcano on why hairstyling is a form of self-expression

WHAT’S YOUR TOP TIP FOR ASPIRING HAIRSTYLISTS?
I always tell young hairstylists that to become successful, don’t think about the money first. If all you’re going to think about is how much you need to earn, it’s not a good mindset to start with. If you want to be part of this type of creative industry, everything must start with passion. You won’t be able to create looks, meet people, or to even trust yourself if you don’t have passion.

WHAT IS YOUR DREAM HAIR LOOK AND FOR WHOM?
Before, the effortless look of Charlize Theron’s hair was always my inspiration. Now, I love Zendaya and the multitude of styles she can do with her textured hair. So, if I ever get to meet Zendaya, and since she’s done it all, I’ll create this very timeless coiffure for her—think old Dolce and Gabbana runway shows.
WHAT ABOUT THE BEAUTY INDUSTRY DO YOU LIKE THE BEST?
I love that the industry is ever evolving. As the years go by and as the beauty industry keeps on growing, everyone is becoming true to themselves—in their work and who they are.
WHAT BEAUTY MOVEMENT WOULD LIKE TO SEE MORE IN THE FUTURE?
To give Filipino artists a bigger platform to explore other beauty looks and learn from other cultures of other countries. Right now, the looks we do are a mix of everything. We haven’t had a signature look coming from Filipino artists, and I think it’s because we need a bigger platform to explore and express ourselves more. Sari-sarili tayong productions now, but if we can come together as artists, maybe we’ll get a chance to create a signature Filipino look.
