From World Cup victories to wholesome family outings, here’s how these famous athletes in football, basketball, tennis, and alpine skiing spent the beginning of their holidays

Curious about what life updates you may have missed from some of the most famous athletes in the world? When it comes to top athletes like Lionel Messi, Stephen Curry, Serena Williams, and Mikaela Shiffrin, their lives are never too quiet. In case you missed it, here’s how they spent the first half of December.

Leo Messi

Lionel Messi received more than one form of acclaim this December. In an incredible showing of football prowess, Argentina bested France in Qatar last month. Though praised as one of the best football players in the world, this is Messi’s first World Cup win. His fans were so overjoyed that they shot his victory post on Instagram to the top, making it the most-liked post on the platform—replacing the stock photo of an egg from 2019. Returning from Qatar, Messi and the rest of the team took to the streets to celebrate Argentina’s win. Argentina is definitely the happiest country this holiday season.

Steph Curry

The holiday season stands as the season of giving, and Stephen Curry, his family, and his brand made sure to do just that. For one thing, they kept up the decade-long annual tradition of Christmas With The Currys. This year, the Currys gave some much-needed resources and holiday cheer to thousands of locals in Oakland in the middle of a winter wonderland. The Curry brand also hosted a basketball clinic for 30 Dream Academy kids in New York City as part of their mission to give back to the community. Notably, in early December, Curry had also been awarded Sports Illustrated’s Sportsperson of the Year.

Serena Williams

In between managing several business ventures like her clothing and jewelry brands, Serena Williams made sure to leave enough time to spend with family. Midway through December, the tennis star shared adorable photos of her daughter with a pony, as well as a selfie with her small family at “the farm.” Notably, she hadn’t made any announcements this past month regarding the next steps in her tennis career, but we look forward to anything she could give us. Maybe, like her sister Venus, she’ll play in exhibition matches this coming 2023.

Mikaela Shiffrin

Mikaela Shiffrin adds another World Cup victory to this list—this time, for alpine skiing. Currently the top female player in her sport, Mikaela Shiffrin bagged another win at the St. Moritz Ski World Cup midway through December. This is her 77th World Cup victory thus far, which means she’s only five victories away from meeting retired skiing legend Lindsey Vonn’s record of 82 victories. Around that time, she also released the first episode of her new YouTube series called Moving Right Along, where she talks about her career from her perspective. Notably, in this first episode, she shared the story of running into world-famous skiers, Benjamin and Marlies Raich, at training in Pitztal.
