Avel Bacudio premiered his Philippines-inspired collection at the Los Angeles Fashion Week.
A continuous effort to showcase the rich culture of our country, Avel Bacudio is not one to shy away from presenting his Filipino roots in his collections. Crafting details that represent the elegance of the Philippines, as well as exhibiting the beauty of our vast nature. It’s an artistry that he brought to the west coast as he premiered his collection at the Los Angeles Fashion Week.
Prominent elements that scattered across Avel’s collection were patterns of botanicals that cascaded down the shoulders, while others were embroidered on the bodice. Alongside the florals consisted of handwoven techniques that were seen on his creations as well.
Designed in a minimalistic manner, materials that were used in the collection also symbolized the Philippines’ rich resources. Natural fabrics such as piña, jusi, and Mindanao silk were structured in modern-day bomber jackets, chic coats, as well as the traditional Barong Tagalog.
As for the womenswear, he explored exaggerated proportions on the shoulders while still maintaining their wearer’s figure. And one can’t simply forget the ever-so iconic butterfly sleeves in our culture, another element that Avel placed in his collection.
Beyond the world of fashion, Avel’s collection was a marriage of the three islands of our country. It was a culmination of cultures that represent the beauty of our diverse landscape and the creativity we have yet to discover.
“I want the world to see the Philippines, and how beautiful our country is.”
