Admit it, ‘Nightcrawler’ is one of the best thrillers of 2014. Oscars completely snubbed Gyllenhaal on that one but it looks like we have a strong contender this time. The movie’s genius trio—Jake Gyllenhaal, Rene Russo, and writer-director Dan Gilroy—comes up with a new horror that pulls fear from out the frames, literally. ‘Velvet Buzzsaw’ will soon be terrorizing the world of art and high society.

Gyllenhaal plays Morf Vandewalt, an eccentrically critical art dealer who finds Kapoor-esque arts unoriginal and empty. Set in the world of contemporary art, Morf is later presented with grotesque art recovered from a dead man’s hotel room. With the “mesmeric” art pieces appearing to have captivated the Vanderwalt, the art dealer later monetizes from its brutality. But consequences arise as the paintings begin to come to life and start killing people.
The movie will be a brutal allegation of the things we’ve yet to see in the cut-throat industry of contemporary arts. In a battle for status and significance, art meets business in this dark feature. ‘Velvet Buzzsaw’ will be streaming on Netflix on February 1, 2019. See the official trailer below:
