He called it an “ego boost”, we call it a likely result. For some reasons, finding out that Idris Elba is People’s Sexiest Man Alive 2018 didn’t come as a surprise. If anything, we have been waiting for too long for him to own the title. Now that our faith in People has been restored after last year’s result, it’s safe to say that there’s still hope for humanity. The thing is Elba, 46, has been doing all sort of things sexier than having a perfectly chiseled physique. Here are a few things the man does that makes him the perfect for the title:
Fatherhood
A man who loves his children more than anyone—this has to be the best trait Elba has. When asked by People what the happiest moment of his life is, the actor knew exactly what to say. Without a doubt, he said it as the day his children were born. It wasn’t when he got the role for ‘The Wire’ (which coincidentally happened a day after his daughter was born) but the day his now 16-year-old daughter and 4-year-old son were brought to life. If anything, a good father will always be sexy for any woman.
A balance between confidence and humility
Watching his interview with People was fun. He knows exactly when to let out the confidence he has. While he remains humble saying the title surprised him, he still found the right amount of confidence to look in the mirror and acknowledge that he very much deserved it. “I was like, ‘Come on, no way. Really? Looked in the mirror, I checked myself out. I was like, ‘Yeah, you are kind of sexy today.’ But to be honest, it was just a nice feeling. It was a nice surprise — an ego boost for sure.” What makes him sexy is the fact that he’s not afraid to be himself but knows exactly when to be grounded.
There’s nothing he can’t do
Actor, rapper, designer, DJ—there’s probably nothing Idris Elba can’t do. It’s already sexy enough that he’s a very talented actor but he keeps on proving there’s more to him than acting skills. Apparently, he DJs in Ibiza and kickboxes in Thailand. He’s also designing his own clothing brand and have collaborated with Superdry in the past. Even after being honored as Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE) for his services to drama, there’s still no stopping Elba from doing more. How he does it lies on his philosophy. “I think everyone should adopt the philosophy that tomorrow is not promised so just go for it today, man. You might as well do it to your heart’s content,” he shares. Finding time for himself, his fiancée Sabrina Dhowre, his family, and his job is probably the sexiest he does.
