Kathryn and Sofia’s bond proves that there are friendships that can last in every season of your life
Finding friends is already hard enough, but what more if you’re in show business? Over the years, we have witnessed celebrity friendships that have grown apart or have found their ways back together. Some drift from each other because of a misunderstanding or because of different priorities and schedules, while others keep their bond low maintenance yet solid. An example of the latter is the friendship of Kathryn Bernardo and Sofia Andres.

After building a bond during their Princess and I days, the two have remained good friends since. Even in different stages of their personal and professional paths, their friendship has continued to thrive. It’s all about choice
In 2021 the actresses had a proper sit-down after Sofia announced the birth of her daughter, Zoe. Guesting in Kathryn’s vlog segment “TGIS,” the young mother and the multi-hyphenate looked back on their friendship all these years. “In order for a friendship to work, you have to want it. Hindi naman tayo mandalas magkita,” Bernardo pointed out. “But the communication is still there.” Agreeing to this, Andres replied, “May sincerity.” The younger actress also recalled how her “Ate Kath” and “Kuya DJ” never made her feel different even with their royalty status in showbiz.
Everyone gets older and priorities do change. While some friendships have that natural bond, keeping that connection takes constant effort of making time for your friends. Even with their busy schedules, Kathryn and Sofia managed to strengthen their bond because it was a conscious decision for both parties.
Trust is key
During Sofia’s pregnancy, she decided to take a break from her career and live in Australia with her partner, Daniel Miranda. Before she left, she confided to the A Very Good Girl star about her new blessing in life. “Hindi ako makapaniwala!” Bernardo said, recalling the time The Iron Heart actress told her about Zoe. “Baby girl namin si Sof.”
“You’re the most genuine person I know [in showbiz],” Sofia remarked about her friend. “In the long run, may mga taong magre-reach out sa’yo kahit ‘di kayo nag-uusap. Ikaw ‘yun. So I appreciate that so much.” Although Bernardo already knew about her pregnancy and eventually the birth of Zoe, no news came out from her until her friend officially announced it publicly. A true test of friendship is knowing that you can trust them to be your safe space and they can keep your secrets.
Make it fun
Of course, part of keeping a friendship intact is spending time with each other. Whether it’s a chill wine night or a breezy beach day, you can count on the two friends to keep their friendship fun and exciting. Taking their bond to the next level, they even went to Thailand earlier this year for a triple date with Arisse and their respective partners then. Although you can prove your real friends during the bad days, the friends who share your good days mean they can uplift your mood and make you happy. Luckily, for Kathryn and Sofia, they have each other for both.
