Kelvin Morales succeeds in combining seemingly impossible and opposing elements: the alien and the ethereal; avant-garde and impeccable tailoring. But that he does as he showed embellished suits with surprise cutout details, dresses with exaggerated puff sleeves, and dreamy, flowing pieces.
The narrative of his runway is something that should be noted. From tailored black ensembles, we graduate to flowy pieces in flesh and finally to shocks of ultraviolet. A sense of foreboding was prevalent during the show, eventually escalating to his finale pieces: skintight bodysuits of sheer and nude give way to his pièces de résistance that could only be described as wearable art. Models don armors that recreate oil spills, dripping splatters of blue and fleshy are juxtaposed with strategic pink gem embellishments, bringing to mind an almost luxurious take on a disease or quite possibly an alien takeover of our bodies.
