Khalid’s American Teen Tour in Manila was a nostalgic celebration of youth, uniting fans of all ages through his relatable lyrics and vibrant stage presence.
Khalid has been singing anthems of the youth. From his narration of living as a teen under a parent’s supervision to making the most out of each stolen moments, he has perfectly captured youth in his songs. His genuine lyrics has been very relatable to today’s youth but even the older generation can very much see themselves in the songs the American singer writes.
Attending his concert, I have seen more than just a younger generation of concert-goers. Even those that are of my age and older are present and singing along to his hits. It can’t be helped. His music has reminded everyone of the youth that was once ours. It has to be the lyrics and the melody—the perfect songs to sing on a car to a weekend getaway. Khalid has made a generation older than him to rekindle memories and experience what has been all over again.
Khalid’s personality has shone on stage. The way he carelessly dances and performs as if the stage was his playground held everyone captive of his presence and music. Not to mention, his voice stuns with consistency and a distinct sound that no other singer has. Khalid’s Manila stop was more of a party than a concert. It never felt as if he was just a performer. He was one with the crowd, interacting and sharing the moment with everyone. It felt empty after he has completely left the stage but the memory of the moment he shared with the fans will remain forever.
Just as our youth, these memories never go away. It’s always there only waiting to be remembered and relived. That’s probably the edge Khalid has from all other performers. He takes back a generation to moments worth remembering and keeps today’s youth in theirs.
