Traditional With a Twist

There are many symbols attributed to the bridal veil: a woman’s purity, innocence, and modesty; the bride’s transition from the old to new life as a wife; or even as a safeguard from evil spirits. Regardless of symbolism, the veil is a traditional and essential piece in one’s wedding, and many brides have worn different variations of it, each woman showing off their own style on one of the biggest days of their life.

Veering from the tulle or lace veil that cascaded the bride’s whole look, Kiana decided to modernize this practice and opted for a birdcage veil for her look—traditional with a twist. Pinned to the back of the bride’s head is Mich Dulce’s Birdcage Sofia crown, which was composed of hand-cut and assembled orchids and leaves crafted from handwoven T’nalak from the T’boli people of South Cotabato. Interestingly, milliner Dulce shared how it was Kiana’s request to have the birdcage veil detachable from the headpiece—a functional choice if one decides to rewear the accessory.

A Modern Filipina Bride

Of all the pointers a bride has to remember for her wedding ensemble, there’s one that never goes out of style: her dress should be a reflection of her personality. In Kiana’s case, she opted for a timeless Keomi mini-dress and dreamy brocade by Boom Sason, paired with a gorgeous drop waist skirt by Francis Libiran. Adding hints of color were her Sofia crown and her gold Prada loafers, tying perfectly well with the other pieces. All of these individual elements formed an effortless and relaxed ensemble on the bride.

With the reveal a year later, it preserved the occasion’s momentum to whom it truly mattered the most—to the groom Sandro and the bride Kiana.
