DEPARTURE

Alcantara made her debut in entertainment at seven years old. In 2010, she launched her career in the reality show Star Circle Quest: The Search for the Next Kiddie Superstar, where she encountered her first elimination. At the age of twelve, she secured her first significant role as part of the cast of Annaliza. Since then, she has appeared in several notable television shows, including Pangako sa ’Yo [2015], as well as Wildflower [2017] and Kambal, Karibal [2017].

Recognized as “La Nueva Contravida,” she became a sensation through her portrayal of Cheska in Kambal, Karibal [2017], securing her first acting awards. These achievements encompassed Best Supporting Drama Actress at the 32nd PMPC Star Awards for Television, Most Promising Female Star for TV at the 2018 Alta Media Icon Awards, and the national title of Best Actress in a Supporting Role at the 1st Asian Academy Creative Awards.

While Alcantara is an avid learner and persistent actress, constantly working on expanding her knowledge, in conversation she is gently funny, listens intently, and thoughtfully considers different perspectives. Recalling her humble childhood in Camarines Sur, she reflected, “Life there is very simple and because of this I aspire to have a simple and peaceful life.”

Despite the bustling pace of Manila, she remains committed to living intentionally, guided by her core values—a commitment deeply ingrained in her Bicolana roots. With a proclivity to stillness and connecting with her loved ones, she added, “[My biggest priority] is a happy family. Family first, more than anything.”

TRIALS AND TRIBULATIONS

Alcantara reflects on her elimination from Star Circle Quest as a specific moment from her childhood that significantly shaped her resilience and determination. Describing her experience as “really painful,” she recalls, “At that time, I was already giving up.”

Although she grappled with being the first participant to be eliminated, her mom imparted the strength to persevere, explaining that rejections are commonplace in her chosen career: “Just because you’ve been told ‘no’ doesn’t mean you have to receive it as a ‘no.’” She continued, “My mom said, ‘You need to be resilient—you need to be your own phoenix.” To this day, Alcantara embraces this motto, believing that “it’s up to you if you want to push for another day.”

Coping with trials and tribulations is a fundamental aspect of the human experience. What sets Alcantara’s journey apart is its introspective nature. Her memories have profoundly influenced her thinking, guiding her toward self-discovery.

In her journey, the 21-year-old actress has already faced significant personal challenges including financial struggles, the emotional turmoil of her parents’ separation, and the resilience required to overcome multiple rejections. She shows us the importance of adaptation and acceptance, embracing change as a catalyst for personal growth and transformation.

Because of her portrayal as the villainess and anti-hero in the majority of roles, Alcantara is no stranger to misrepresentation. She revealed, “I’m still in the process [receiving] a lot of hate and [people] saying a lot of cruel things to me, unbelievable things that I cannot even fathom.” Due to her television roles, people mistakenly assume she is capable of doing the things her character does on screen.

“As long as I know my truth is the truth, I don’t owe anyone any explanation,” she stated. “I will just let God do His thing.” By anchoring herself to her identity, she approaches life with clarity, undeterred by criticism.

With genuine sentiment, she divulged, “The entertainment industry is chaotic and you just need to find peace amidst the chaos.” When the unpredictable nature of your surroundings dictates daily experiences, as Alcantara notes, you cultivate patience, allowing your journeys to reveal unexpected realizations.
