Leo Almodal Makes Dreams Come True for Women in His First Show

Leo Almodal welcomes you to his world in his first-ever solo show, impressing audiences with dreamlike creations grounded on profound themes

Pageantry and fashion often exist in entirely different worlds, each with its own set of rules and aesthetics, despite sharing a common fascination with crystallized gowns. When these worlds collide, the result can be either disastrous or dazzling. Yet, this fusion creates a unique dimension. Perhaps this is just Leo Almodal’s world. In his first solo show, Welcome to My World, the designer manifested his dreams through themes of hope, nature, and fantasy.

Leo Almodal debuts his first runway show in three segments

Almodal described the works as “a vast wonderland of imagination”. The show was divided into three segments: Rays of light gave prominence to a global experience; Nature is nurtured over a lush expanse; and a fairy tale that gave answers to the designer’s purpose.

Prominent headpieces are a common element in the show

The first segment, the Sun Collection, was brought by the pandemic. Almodal sought to cast away the shadows of a lonely time with designs that radiate hope and renewal. Central to this theme was a striking headpiece shaped like the sun, both a literal and figurative beacon of light. The pieces were vibrant yellows and golds, symbolizing warmth and new beginnings. “I just wanted to continue working on my craft and tell people to keep going on, despite the circumstances,” he says.

Grand ball gowns are further fueled in their grandiosity by exagerrated accents

As someone who champions the environment, Almodal’s second segment, the Lasang Collection, is inspired by the biodiversity of the Philippines. “I advocate for that,” he shares. “We should plant more trees and find solutions for climate change.” The looks were an ode to rare flora and fauna, with patterns and textures that brought the wild beauty of the forests to the runway.

The final part of the show was a nostalgic nod to Almodal’s love for fairy tales. Inspired by the story of Snow White, the Blood and Snow Collection captured the essence of the beloved tale. He explained, “I’m a fan of fairy tales. I think that’s my main purpose in life: to make dreams come true for women.”

This segment drew from the moment Snow White’s mother pricked her finger and wished for a daughter with skin as white as snow and lips as red as blood. The gowns were fused with rubies, red crystals, and clear diamond-like embellishments, as Almodal added his expertise in jewelry with his couture designs. “I fuse jewelry on my dresses, so you’re wearing jewelry in dress form.”

Leo Almodal closes his show, Welcome to My World

The designer weaves his dreams into a world of his own, inviting everyone else to visit. The show was a series of dresses that shimmered and sparkled, creating an ethereal, dream-like atmosphere. Each collection conveyed significant themes, relishing in an imaginative world that one would hope to exist—and maybe, in Leo Almodal’s vision, it already does.
