A New Yorker himself, Michael Kors aimed to bring life back to the city’s theater district, which was forced to close due to the coronavirus. With this in mind, the brand celebrated its 40th anniversary with a show that illuminated the streets of New York City.

The 40th anniversary show opened with a message from Michael Kors himself, then transitioned to a short film that featured celebrities and Broadway stars such as Bette Midler, Debra Messing, and Billy Porter, to name a few. Shot at reportedly one of Kors’ favorite restaurants located in the theater district, Sardi’s, the stars encouraged viewers to donate to The Actors Fund, an organization that supports people working in the arts and entertainment industry. A theater lover himself, Kors had this to say: “The theater is the heartbeat and the pulse of New York City and an endless source of inspiration for me, so to see Broadway shut down has been really heartbreaking,” according to People.

Looking forward to when everyone can finally go out, Michael Kors’ 2021 Fall/Winter collection was inspired by the feeling of “stepping out” and “fast-paced days and opening nights,” as per press release. Known for his all-American glam, the show did not disappoint.

With supermodel Shalom Harlow leading the runway down West 45th Street, the looks were nothing short of classic Kors: timeless, luxurious, shimmery, and all glitz and glam. Supermodel and fashion icon Naomi Campbell closed the show, walking into Shubert Theater. There, all models were gathered, while they watched singer-songwriter Rufus Wainwright perform a NewYork City themed medley, singing songs like “New York State of Mind” and “City Lights”.

Truly, Michael Kors’ 40th anniversary show was a celebration meant for center stage.
