Yes, you heard that right. Lauren Giraldo claims to have lost 30 pounds just by walking on a treadmill using the 12-3-30 settings. The YouTuber has been doing the workout for around 2 years while maintaining healthy eating habits. Due to her influence, many have started taking her lead and the results were quite surprising. Those who have tried it out claim to have lost around 20 pounds in a month and are now calling it the 12-3-30 lifestyle. So, what is this workout all about and does it really work?

What is the 12-3-30 workout?
Basically, 12-3-30 means you have to set your treadmill inclination to 12% with the speed of 3mph for 30 minutes everyday. According to Tinoy Borromeo a professional trainer at Saddle Row, F45, and The Movement Studio, “Doing this exercise is a great endurance and cardio workout for sure since it’s a long duration at steady pace exercise. The added incline adds a special challenge on the legs making you exert more effort. In terms of losing weight, same thing, it will work with the proper energy balance.”

Is the 12-3-30 workout effective?
Despite literally walking for 30 minutes, the 12-3-30 is not a walk in the park. After personally trying the workout, I found the hardest part to be consistency. I had to break away from my lazy habits and commit to the exercise no matter what. Apart from this, I had to catch my breath 5 minutes in the workout. Nevertheless, the workout could be used for a good cardio kickstart, but it definitely would not harbor the same results as Lauren’s body.

Should you try the 12-3-20 workout?
If you think you can commit to it, then go for it. I’ve been doing it for a week now and I can definitely see the changes in my body. It’s great motivation if you are a desk dweller like myself. Aside from that, what makes this workout different from the others is the mindset attached to it. It isn’t intimidating at all, as compared to other workouts online. It might be hard to do religiously, but thinking about it again- it’s just sparing 30 minutes to literally walk.

Doing it consistently everyday will definitely harbor benefits.

Tinoy advises those who are thinking of trying it out to push through with it. He says, “At the end of the day, general movement and exercise is what matters most. Do what you enjoy the most. Just because it worked for them, it may or may not work for you. For a true healthy and body transformation, it still has to have some sort of energy and calorie balance.”
