Louis Vuitton creative director Nicolas Ghesquière throws away the concept of time in the Louis Vuitton Spring Summer 2022 Shanghai Spin-Off Show. In his description of the collection, le grand bal of Time, is all about dissolving functions and codes. More than removing the concept of time, we saw a symbolic removal of social hierarchy, discrimination, and prejudices.
Ghesquière melded historical silhouettes with the current trends, executing utilitarian clothing in an opulent manner. A signature Ghesquière move, his designs have always been sharp, cerebral and utterly luxurious. His skill is in full display at the Louis Vuitton Spring Summer 2022 Shanghai Spin-Off Show. He did not only go through time, but also controlled it.
Despite being dubbed as an Act 2 of the Louis Vuitton Spring Summer 2022 collection, the Shanghai Spin-Off Show is a proof that the luxury brand understands its clientele well. Most of the pieces were rendered in shades of black and white, while denim and leather also played key roles.
With around 158 million online viewers in China and an A-list riddled guest list that swelled up to 1,000, the show was deemed a success, so much so that Louis Vuitton chairman and executive officer Michael Burke told WWD, they expected to see an increase in sales by 10%.
The show marks a high point for the brand as it gets ready for the holiday season. Clearly, Ghesquière and company know that the time is right—and right now—for Louis Vuitton.
